You may notice that starting from May 6, 2025, a little owl-like icon appears on our Library homepage. This is our new HKUST Library Chatbot (beta)! It is now on a two-month pilot program until the end of June.
Developed through our DS CoLab initiative—where students team up with the Library staff to explore digital tools and AI applications—the chatbot uses ChatGPT technology to answer your general questions about library services.
What Can the Chatbot Do?
The chatbot is designed to make your library experience smoother and more enjoyable. Here are just a few examples of what it can help you with:
- Checking Library Services: What service library provide? The chatbot can answer!
- Learning About Facilities: Curious about library hours? The chatbot has you covered.
- Getting Quick Answers: Wondering how to borrow materials, renew items, or print documents? The chatbot can guide you step by step.
No matter the time of day, the chatbot is ready to assist with general questions so you can focus on your studies and research.
Privacy First
Privacy is our priority—the chatbot doesn’t collect or store any personal information or user identities. Your interactions are completely anonymous, so you can use the service with confidence.
Your interactions with the chatbot during this pilot phase are crucial for its improvement. Every question you ask helps us understand what information our library users need most. After each response, you’ll see an option to provide quick feedback—choose “Helpful” or “Not Helpful” to let us know how the chatbot performed. All the information will be analyze after the pilot period to enhance the chatbot’s knowledge base and capabilities.
Give it a try today and help shape the future of library services!
