Students’ Reflection: More Library Journeys Unveiled

Delores from Research and Learning Support

My experience of nearly 2 years as a Library E-Learning Production Assistant were rewarding. I mastered tools like ActivePresenter and Adobe Captivate, designing engaging e-learning materials. Producing a Minecraft-inspired video for the China Map Exhibition and directing a stop-motion promo for E-Discovery Week 2025 were enjoyable and sharpened my technical, storytelling, and project management skills.

Developing a chatbot for the library was rewarding. I focused on understanding user needs and designing an intuitive interface. I learned CSS, JavaScript, and Python, explored Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system architecture, and learned to prepare data for GPT models. I also fine-tuned GPT responses to for more accurate answers. I enjoyed the project and gained a deeper understanding of web development and chatbots’ potential.

Sherry from Systems and Digital Services

This is my second Library DS CoLab project. This opportunity not only enables me to apply lessons from past projects but also gain new insights. In this project, I found that getting into published papers really helps grasp a field faster. As I move forward, these insights will continue to influence my approach to technology development, always with an eye towards making complex tools usable and useful for everyone.

Yolanda from Systems and Digital Services

I developed a topic modeling tool that focused on Chinese text, starting with no knowledge of it. This project provided me with the opportunity to research and understand its theoretical foundations and existing techniques. It has significantly broadened my knowledge in natural language processing over the past four months.
