The HKUST Library and Office of the Executive Vice-President & Provost present

The Jiazi Society is a locally registered non-profit arts organization. For the past three decades, its members have come together to research and study the art of Chinese calligraphy assiduously. Society members have exhibited at the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial (the highest grade of local official exhibition) and many winners were Society members. Members have gone on repeated exchanges with Mainland provincial calligraphy groups, and have also been invited to Japan, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom for exhibition and exchanges.

In recent years, the Society’s works have mostly taken as their theme Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist philosophy. This promotes both the art of Chinese calligraphy and our excellent traditional heritage, thought, and culture at once: a commendable and venerable intention!

Our Library has staged several exhibitions of Chinese calligraphy before, the most recent one in 2009 (five years ago). We are honored to exhibit the works of the Jiazi Society, to organize a talk and demonstration, and guided tours of exhibits by members of the Society. Through these, we hope HKUST students, faculty, and staff will come to appreciate today’s calligraphy from Hong Kong, and enhance their interest in and appreciation of Chinese calligraphy as a whole. Here, we would also like to express our extreme gratitude to the Jiazi Society.

講座及書法示範

談書法的情感與時代精神

人說習書法可以陶冶性情。喜歡寫字的人自己怎麼說？我們看書法作品，除了欣賞書法藝術之美，是否還能讀出書法家的情感與作品的時代面貌？蘇軾寫黃州寒食帖，其實在寫自己當時所感；趙孟頫用一生的審美取向，以復古保衛漢族文化。這次講座，講者會從視覺、情緒、託懷、時代精神，引領我們進入書法家與作品的幽微隱密處。

即席揮毫活動：

講座及示範結束後，甲子書學會會員將即席揮毫，為參加者書寫心儀的書法作品。參加者可預先準備喜歡的文字(14字以下)，現埸邀請書法家書寫，以留紀念。

註：是次講座及示範為 Healthy Lifestyle (HLTH1010) 課程之一部份，完成後學生將可以獲得1.5小時學分。
