The HKUST Library and Center for the Arts present
Good art comes from the heart. “Good artists learn from nature and turn inner feelings into art”. Advocated by Zhang Zao, painter and art theorist of Tang Dynasty, this principle best represents Shen Ping’s artistic ideal. When asked about the driving force behind his artistic creation, Shen Ping would not hesitate to share his love for the places and people who have been important in his life. One of those places is certainly Hong Kong, where he settled down in 1980 and has established since the 1990s the status of one of the most representative ink painters and watercolorists with versatile skills and diverse themes. Today, his passion continues to bring him back to Xinjiang and Northwestern China, where a strong love for art was deeply rooted in his youthful heart in those early days.
When invited to hold an exhibition at HKUST Lee Shau Kee Library, Shen Ping was excited and promised to create a series of watercolors to capture the beautiful sceneries and architecture of our campus. Selected for this exhibition are also some recent rural landscapes and urban cityscapes of Mainland China, Hong Kong and well-known places all over the world, still lifes and pen sketches, which exemplify the breadth and the diversity of Shen Ping’s art.
The Center for the Arts is proud to co-organize this exhibition together with Lee Shau Lee Library. We are grateful to Shen Ping for sharing the art from his heart with the HKUST community.
