Officer (Research Support) (Job ID: JR100485)
The Library’s Research and Learning Support (RLS) unit’s mission is to develop and improve the HKUST community’s abilities to effectively and ethically navigate and contribute to the world of data, information, and knowledge on their learning and research journeys.
Working as a member of the RLS unit, the appointee will support the delivery of high-quality research support services. Reporting to the Assistant Librarian in Research Support, the appointee will help ensure accurate research output information management and smooth operations for research-support and other library related services and events.
The appointee at Officer rank will perform a wide range of duties including:
- Manage and validate research output in the University’s Research Portal (PURE)
- Maintain researchers’ profiles;
- Check open access status of research output and publishers’ copyright policies;
- Process HKUST E-theses and handle related enquiries;
- Provide logistical support for Researcher’s Series and information literacy workshops and library events;
- Supervise the SPD student helper team;
- Perform shift counter duties on a roster basis; and
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Applications should have
- A bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years’ work experience (experience in an academic library is preferred);
- Experience with bibliographic metadata creation experience and author IDs; and proficiency in database searching (e.g. Web of Science and Scopus) will be an advantage;
- A responsible work attitude, self-motivated, with excellent attention to details;
- A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
- A Joint Certificate for Library Assistants will be an advantage.

Librarian (Digital Strategies) (Job ID: JR100493)
The Library has established a new Digital Strategies unit to advance the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence across learning, research, and library operations, together with the Library's data-driven services and its digital scholarship.
Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian (Digital Strategies), the appointee helps translate the Library's digital efforts into services and operational capability, with a focus on harnessing generative AI and exploring emerging agentic approaches to enhance library workflows, drive digital transformation, and enable library automation.
- Design, pilot, and integrate generative-AI workflows and lightweight automations (such as scripts and APIs) to enhance library processes, such as metadata generation, description and captioning, large-scale text and media processing;
- Develop AI-powered discovery and research-support services, such as gateways to library collections, with appropriate evaluation, guardrails, and quality assurance;
- Build the Library's internal AI capability, developing staff training, practical guides, and hands-on support so that colleagues across teams can adopt AI tools confidently and responsibly in their work;
- Evaluate and prioritize AI tools and use cases (including privacy, security, and licensing considerations), and promote responsible, transparent AI use across services;
- Advance digital scholarship and the digital preservation program in partnership with faculty and colleagues;
- Monitor emerging AI and digital-library developments, translate them into practical and ethically sound opportunities for the Library, and participate in library-wide projects and committees as needed.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience
- A master's degree in library and information science or a related field, in addition to a bachelor's degree, and a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification working experience;
- A sound understanding of generative AI and related technologies, with hands-on familiarity with current AI tools and platforms;
- A working understanding of the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI, including bias, transparency, privacy, copyright/IP, and academic integrity;
- A demonstrated record of service development, project leadership, and effective cross-unit collaboration in a rapidly evolving environment, including experience guiding or supervising staff;
- Experience in digital scholarship, library data and analytics, and/or AI / emerging-technology services;
- Excellent communication, instruction, and interpersonal skills, with a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.

Assistant Officer (Collection Management) (Job ID: JR100494)
The Library is seeking an Assistant Officer to join a designated team within the Library’s Resource Management Unit. The team is responsible for procurement of both print and electronic materials, metadata management, and electronic resource management.
Major duties of the appointee include supporting acquisition activities (from ordering to payment processing), performing metadata creation and updates, and carrying out routine electronic resource management (ERM) tasks. The appointee will also be required to undertake shift duties at service counters and participate in various library activities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Applicants should have at least 5 passes including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A or level 2 if results were obtained from 2007 onwards) and Chinese in the HKCEE; or 5 subjects, including English Language and Chinese Language, attaining level 2 or above (or equivalent) in the HKDSE.
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and Chinese word processing.
- Possession of a Joint Certificate for Library Assistants will be an advantage. Relevant working experience in a library environment is preferred.
- Good analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team.

Job Duties:
- Perform counter duties at service desks.
- Handling inter-library loan & reserve requests.
- Provide support to facilities, equipment, and study areas during floor duty.
- Monitor facilities & equipment, report & follow up defects and collect usage data.
- Conduct routine physical collection maintenance.
- Provide clerical and logistics support for library activities, projects, and events.
Requirements:

Librarian (Research Support) (Job ID: JR100500)
HKUST Library is seeking a dynamic librarian to join the Library’s Research & Learning Support (RLS) team.
Reporting to the Head of Research & Learning Support, the appointee will contribute to planning, creation, delivery, and assessment of the Library’s research and learning initiatives with an emphasis on supporting researchers in their workflow in an evolving AI-assisted environment. S/he will be a key person to develop and implement services related to research impact, research data, and scholarly communications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage HKUST repositories: Serve as one of the library’s experts developing and managing the HKUST institutional repositories, research data planning, and overseeing transformative agreements.
- Promote open scholarship and scholarly communication best practices: Foster the adoption of open scholarship and research data management among HKUST community and assist in developing HKUST’s research impact.
- Develop research instruction: Design and deliver forward-looking instruction (robust workshops, online guides, and interactive tools) to the HKUST community across the full research lifecycle, with a focus on integrating effective and ethical AI tools to enhance researcher workflows.
- Provide bibliometric & impact analysis: Offer expertise on bibliometrics, altmetrics and other tools for research impact assessment. Conduct analyses and generate reports for individual and groups to support assessment exercise.
- Serve as subject liaison for assigned disciplines: Act as the primary library contact for designated departments, providing tailored research consultations, course-integrated instruction, and collection development to support the specific teaching and research needs of faculty and students.
Requirement Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A master’s degree in library and information science or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification working experience.
- An open mind and a growth, collaborative and relationship-building mindset; strong self-motivation to learn, proactivity, an innovative attitude, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, AI-assisted research and learning environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of the full research workflow, with the ability to articulate emerging trends in open science (especially open access), research data management, research impact assessment, and scholarly publishing; along with a deep understanding of the academic research environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) is an advantage.
Desirable Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in research data management (planning and archiving) and data visualization, plus experience with bibliometric tools (e.g. InCites, SciVal, OpenAlex) to produce clear reports for different audiences.
- Proven ability to design and deliver engaging instruction for varied audiences; and familiarity with AI tools applicable to academic research and teaching, along with a keen awareness for their ethical implications and evolving role in research workflow.
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively across library units, with faculty, researchers and external partners, understand diverse needs and align services with strategic priorities of the Library and the University.

The Library is looking for an Officer to support communications, publicity, and user engagement initiatives, and to provide administrative support for Library operations.
Major duties of the appointee include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supporting Library publicity campaigns and promoting Library services, resources, programs, and initiatives through various communication channels.
- Creating, editing, and publishing content for the Library's website, blog, newsletters, social media platforms, and other communication channels.
- Maintaining the Library's social media presence and assisting in the development and implementation of communication and publicity strategies.
- Liaising with internal and external parties on publicity, communication, and user engagement activities, and assisting in the production of publicity materials.
- Providing administrative and operational support for Library events, programs, exhibitions, visits, tours, talks, and other activities, as well as performing shift-based counter services on a rostered basis.
The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours and on weekends occasionally to support activities and counter duties.
Applicants should posses:
- A bachelor’s degree with 3–5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in communications, marketing, public relations, content management, higher education, cultural institutions, or public organizations.
- A Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (including Putonghua).
- Strong writing, editing, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, work independently, and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
