Library Workshop for faculty: From Literature Discovery to Research Analytics: GenAI & MCP

GenAI tools have become increasingly embedded in academic research processes, with many scholars exploring how to use such tools to enhance their research literature discovery, analysis, and synthesis.  This 60 minute workshop will cover the recent trend of tool-connected AI via Model Context Protocol (MCP) and demonstrate how you can integrate library-subscribed resources like Scite and Consensus into your research workflow.

Outline (60 mins total):

  • The Big Picture
    • GenAI Trends in Research
    • What is MCP & Why should we care
  • Live Demos
    • Demo 1: Literature discovery using Claude/ChatGPT + Consensus MCP
    • Demo 2: Research analytics dashboard prototyping using Cursor + Scite MCP
    • Good practices for responsible use
  • Library Resources and Support
  • Q&A

Note: This workshop will focus on practical use cases and responsible use, not technical implementation. Using some of the tools shown in the workshop requires VPN.
