About the Talk:Jewellery is an ancient art form, using skill to combine elements like gold or silver with precious stones like jade to create beautiful forms to adorn ourselves. The significance of jewellery goes beyond its physical form, to how it is perceived, worn, and connected to surrounding artifacts and symbols.In this talk, Mr. Dickson Yewn will share on his work to use and celebrate the heritage of traditional Chinese jewellery in making modern wearable art. He will discuss his work to link people to the past through jewellery, bridging the past and the present, recalling China’s history and fashion through images, and offer a unique aesthetic journey. About the Speaker:Since childhood, Mr. Dickson Yewn has devoted himself to fine arts and felt a strong affinity to Chinese arts and culture. Starting 1995, he launched a jewellery brand, “Life of Circle”. After selling that brand to a listed company, in 2007, he launched a new brand under his own family name, YEWN, and opened its flagship store in The Landmark Central.In 2022, Mr. Yewn published the first of two volumes edition of the first contemporary Chinese jewellery art books in the world, entitled Contemporary Art Jewels and The Silk Road.An artist, an entrepreneur, and a literatus, Mr. Yewn is currently also currently a postgraduate student in the School of Humanities and Social Science at HKUST.
