Interlibrary Lending

To comply with the Copyright (Libraries, Museums and Archives—Prescribed Conditions for Making Copy) Regulation, effective January 1, 2026, HKUST Library will revise the process of Interlibrary Loan services.

Library staff will contact borrowing libraries via their email to complete Declaration Forms when necessary.

Borrowing libraries must return the completed Declaration Forms for the request to proceed. In accordance with the Limitation Ordinance (Cap. 347), the completed form will be retained for up to 7 years.

Scope

HKUST Library provides book loans and copies of articles and book chapters to local and overseas libraries in accordance with the Hong Kong Copyright Ordinance Cap.528.

Information on this web page does not apply to UGC-funded libraries and libraries with which we have reciprocal agreements.

Request Methods

General Charges

Libraries in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan & Mainland China

  • Book – HK$40 per volume
  • Article / Book chapter – HK$20

Libraries in other regions

  • Book – US$35 per volume
  • Article / Book chapter – US$12

Payment Methods

We accept OCLC IFM, IFLA voucher, credit card and check in US or HK dollar.

Delivery and Return of Materials

Local libraries

  • Book – borrowing library is responsible for pickup and return
  • Article / Book chapter – delivered electronically or by mail

Libraries outside of HK

  • Book – sent by first class airmail and should be returned likewise
  • Article / Book chapter – delivered electronically by RapidILL, etc.

Recall and Renewal

Materials on loan are subject to recall. Renewals are allowed for local libraries only.
