My Favorite Lectures @ HKUST is a series that showcases our students’ favorite lectures conducted by their favorite teachers. All speakers in the series are medalists for the Michael G. Gale Medal for Distinguished Teaching. The 2018/19 series was made into an open online course (MOOC), in which these passionate and inspiring speakers share their teaching philosophy demonstrated in the lectures.

Introduction to the Embedded Systems

Smart city is a very hot topic that will transform our ways of doing business and living, and improve our quality of life. Many applications in our daily-life are built by embedded systems. What is the embedded system? These applications include electronic devices / gadgets like electronic toothbrushes, wearable device, autonomous vehicles, etc. Which attributes do we have to concern in application of embedded system? Apart from basic knowledge, the instructor will also share authentic engineering experiences and hope to inspire students to embrace an engineer’s habits of mind.

About Professor Woo

Professor Woo is an Associate Professor in Engineering Education in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at HKUST. He is very actively involved in teaching innovation and STEM education. He heads the Center for Global & Community Engagement, SENG in developing enrichment programs for UG students. He also drives a number of experiential learning courses including HKUST Robotics Team and extends it to community engagement projects for youth. Tim has received the University Grants Committee (UGC) Teaching Award 2015, the Michael G Gale Medal for Distinguished Teaching 2015, and the School of Engineering’s Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award 2009 – 2010.
