The Library is inviting applications for the following positions:


Assistant Officer (Access Services) (Job ID: 10533)

The appointees will provide general support to the Library’s Access Services Unit.

Job Duties

  • Perform counter duties at service desks.
  • Manage inter-library loan and reserve requests.
  • Monitor facilities, equipment, and study areas during floor duty.
  • Conduct routine physical collection maintenance.
  • Provide clerical and logistics support for library activities, projects, and events.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 passes in the HKCEE, including English (Grade C minimum if Syllabus A or level 2 if results were obtained from 2007 onwards) and Chinese; or 5 subjects with English Language and Chinese Language achieving level 2 or above (or equivalent) in the HKDSE.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Chinese processing.
  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
  • Service-oriented mindset and strong team player.
  • Excellent typing, data entry, and analytical skills.
  • Experience working in a library environment is a plus.
  • Willingness to undertake shift duties.

(Duration: 1 year)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave and medical benefits will be provided.

Assistant Manager (Resource Management) (Job ID: 10541)

As an Assistant Manager in the Resource Management Department, you will report directly to the Head of Resource Management. Your primary role will involve leading a dedicated team within the Department, overseeing Officers and Assistant Officers to effectively carry out essential library functions. These functions include the coordination of library resource procurement, electronic resource management, and metadata management to ensure prompt and efficient access to library collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate ordering and invoicing processes in alignment with acquisitions decisions made by the Collection Development Committee.
  • Assist in compiling comprehensive expenditure reports, collection usage statistics, and various acquisitions data.
  • Manage electronic resource activities by troubleshooting access issues, overseeing electronic holdings through streamlined workflows, and facilitating communication with vendors and colleagues.
  • Conduct cataloging tasks for library materials in compliance with local and JULAC cataloging practices, international standards, and guidelines.
  • Support in updating metadata to maintain the accuracy and relevance of bibliographic and authority records within the JULAC shared ILS.
  • Collaborate on compiling unit reports and statistics, and contribute to the development and upkeep of internal department manuals and procedures.
  • Fulfill any additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors to ensure the smooth operation of the Resource Management Department.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in library resource management, acquisitions, cataloging, or related areas.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for effective team coordination and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in library automation systems and software tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Librarian (Research Support) (Job ID: 10544)

HKUST Library is seeking a motivated and energetic librarian to join our Research Support team.

Reporting to the Head of Research & Learning Support, you will work closely with library colleagues from multiple teams to support researchers in their workflow through the whole research life cycle. Specifically, you will be the key person to develop and implement services related to research impact, research output management, and scholarly communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Explore and evaluate new tools to support researchers, including those for literature search, data management, citation management and analysis, and digital preservation of research outputs.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and online guides for researchers and research students.
  • Participate in the operation and promotion of institutional repositories for research outputs.
  • Support university initiatives related to research assessment and rankings.
  • Provide expertise and support to authors on open access publishing and emerging scholarly communication issues.
  • Keep updated on the latest developments and trends in research workflows at institutional, regional and global levels.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Required: A master’s degree in library and information science or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification working experience.
  • Experience in working with researchers and delivering instructional sessions, especially in higher-education environment, is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups.
  • The ideal candidate has expertise in data handling, analysis, and visualization (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI) as well as experience with bibliometric tools (e.g. InCites, SciVal, OpenAlex, etc). They should demonstrate a strong interest in open science and research impact assessment, along with a deep understanding of the academic research environment and scholarly publishing trends.
