Systems Project Assistant (Systems & Digital Services)
Part-time appointments from January – May 2026.
Duties
The Library launched a GPT-based chatbot on its homepage and need to keep improve/fine tuning. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to assist in evaluate the chatbot’s responses based on user feedback and migrate to new Library Homepage System. The successful candidate will work closely with library IT staff. Duties include but not limited to:
- Fine tune and improve the chatbot performance/result from user feedback and behaviour.
- Help to migrate and integrate current chatbot to new Library system.
- Create new web scrapper program for new Library Homepage content to Chatbot knowledge.
- Participating in deep technical development tasks to improve chatbot services if the appointee possesses sufficient IT programming skills.
- Other IT related projects in Library.
Highly Desirable Qualities
Applicant has experience and knowledge on API framework, LangChain, Python, PHP, CSS and JavaScript will be an advantage. A creative mind and being user-oriented are essential qualities. Expecting excellent communication and collaboration skills, ability to work independently, can take initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
Salary
HK$68 per hour (Maximum 10 hours/week)

Student Helper (Resource Management)
Part-time appointments from January – 29 May 2026.
Duties
- Assist in updating and verifying records in the library system
- Checking access of library e-resources and records
- Unpacking/checking incoming materials, scanning invoices and filing
- End-processing library materials, e.g., stamp and label
- Assist in the preparation of journal binding
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Good command of Chinese and knowledge in 漢語拼音 & Chinese inputting
- Good command of English
- Responsible, well organized, attention to details and ability to work accurately
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word
- Experience in searching Library Discovery Tool, databases and Internet
Salary
HK$68 per hour (maximum 17 hrs/week in Jan, maximum 10 hrs/wk in Feb-May)

Student Helper (Access Services)
Part-time appointments from 1 February – 31 May 2026.
Duties
- Provide service at the G/F Service Counter. Duties include checking out and checking in library materials, monitoring access gate, answering general enquiries, helping users to search books and tidying up at library closing.
- Work on library floors for other Access Services duties, including shelving, shelf-reading, patrolling, handling newspapers, and providing LC helpdesk services.
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Mon-Fri: 9am-12noon / 2pm-5pm / 3pm-5pm / 9:15pm-11:15pm

Research & Learning Support Metadata Student Helper
The Research & Learning Support Services section is seeking student workers to assist in managing research outputs on two platforms to increase the visibility of HKUST’s research and facilitate scholarly communication. The platforms are:
- The HKUST Research Portal, which serves as a single-source-of-truth platform that consolidates and showcases HKUST research achievement
- The Scholarly Publication Database (SPD), which acts as the institutional repository to collects and preserves research outputs of the HKUST community
Responsibilities of the role:
- Validate, add, and update records in HKUST Research Portal
- Manage HKUST Scholarly Publication Database
- Check sources, de-duplicate, and ensure record accuracy
Requirements:
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks
- Excellent written/spoken English with Chinese highly desirable
- Able to work independently and collaboratively
Appointment Period: January – May 2026
Working Hours: Part-time
- Monday-Friday; 9:00am – 5:00pm
- 17 hours/week (January 2026)
- 10 hours/week (February – May 2026)
Salary: HK$68/hour
