Colours of Stories: An Exhibition of Paintings by Jeanie Leung

Introduction

I try to make art without intending to create art. I walk hand-in-hand with colours, down a path of simple expression. Each stroke of the brush is a step to a journey through my inner garden. I seek for inspirations in secret places, trying to initiate a conversation with the deepest me.

Colour is the bridge to connect the outside world and my soul’s deepest recesses. It guides me from pure imagination to creation, it helps me to reminisce and reconnect with the child in me. Through each story my journey of self-discovery begins, in parallel with Oowa’s adventure to search for his colourful elements in life.

“Colours of Stories” summarises my creations since I started painting and creating stories in 2009. I believe every colour has its own story and every story has its own colour. This is an exhibition to speak for the little kid inside me, who strives to seek for beautiful traces in life through colours. When I travel with him, he becomes the muse of my world, unveiled in the stories – namely, “A Time for the Heart”, “Smile, please”, “The Song of Memory” and my latest work “The Blue Moon”.

Most importantly, this exhibition stands as a chance to share my unique journey of colours with you. I hope you can find your own way of appreciating the relationship of colours and life when you wonder through the four stories with Oowa and me.

I believe there is a child living in everyone’s heart. After viewing my exhibition, I hope you not only can find your child but walk by his or her side, hand-in-hand. Share your joys, sorrows… and your smiles with the child.

Let’s see beyond our everyday desires, into our spirit, our soul.
