About the TalkRoy Delbyck is a major collector of printed materials on China and Hong Kong, largely from the first half of the 20th century. His collection comprises books, maps, photographs, letters, diaries, posters, postcards, directories, and other ephemera. It continues to grow, daily!Roy will talk about what he collects, he will also speak on why he collects, how his collecting interests have changed over time while exploring the nature of collecting, and how private collectors fill in the gaps, often going where institutions can’t.About the SpeakerWhen not collecting, Roy Delbyck is a US customs and trade lawyer with his own firm. He has resided in Hong Kong for many years. He is a trustee of the Museum of Chinese in America based in New York City.Roy has spoken on collecting and his collections at the Royal Asiatic Society, The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong and the Yale Club of Hong Kong. About the Talk:Discussion of demography traditionally has focused on the consequences of population growth. In the talk, Prof Gietel-Basten will share his insights on how our understanding of demographics can influence politics and populations. He will also suggest how humans can take greater ownership of the future by a better understanding of the role demography has played in the past.You can register at Library Event RegistrationHLTH1010 HKUST students may attain 1.0 hour credit for the Healthy Lifestyle Course after attending the seminar.About the SpeakerProf Stuart Gietel-Basten is Associate Director of the Leadership and Public Policy Executive Education Program, and an Associate Professor of Department of Social Science and Institute for Public Policy at HKUST.His research covers the links between population and policy, with a regional focus on Asia. He is especially interested in the emergence of low fertility across the region, and the consequences of this in terms of population ageing and growth. He has been published in a number of major journals in demography and other social science subjects. Why Demography matters (co-written with Danny Dorling) is his first book. He is also a regular contributor to the South China Morning Post and the China Daily.He received his education at the University of Cambridge, with a PhD in historical demography. Before coming to HKUST, he was an Associate Professor of Social Policy at the University of Oxford. He has also been an adviser in Population and Development at the UK Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology and a Research Scholar at the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Austria.

座談會簡介現今互聯網世界資訊氾濫,內容是真是假?很多人不再理會,於是造就不少錯誤訊息廣泛流傳,情況越來越嚴重。近年運動熱潮的興起,不少人把信以為真的訊息在網上與人分享,當中有些資訊更是錯誤的,以訛傳訛,越傳越錯,對社會容易造成負面影響。雷雄德博士將在是次座談會上為我們拆解運動的謬誤,提供一些運動冷知識,讓大家能夠更了解運動的科學原理。既可提升運動表現,享受運動樂趣的同時,也有助減低受傷的風險。《請問雷博士!運動科學是與非》是雷博士於2017年出版的作品。此書將於座談會即場發售,歡迎向作者索取親筆簽名。出席此座談會的科大同學可獲HLTH1010課程中"Activities"單元的"Wellness and Personal Enrichment"1小時學習時數。同學須於入場及離場時出示學生證以作記錄。名額有限,歡迎校外人士參加,請各位報名留座。如有查詢,請聯絡Ms. Celia Cheung (lbcelia@ust.hk)。講者簡介雷雄德博士畢業於美國麻省春田大學,考獲理碩士及體育博士學位,主修體育及運動科學。現職香港浸會大學體育學系副教授,兼任浸會大學許士芬博士體康研究中心副主任,及「亞洲體康學報」編輯。「運動與健康」和「學童體質」是雷博士的主要研究領域,曾撰寫八十多份學術文章及研究報告,並於國際學術會議上發表;社區服務方面,現兼任香港運動醫學及科學學會會長、香港警察訓練學院名譽顧問、小童群益會團隊挑戰賽主委、香港電台顧問團委員等;先後為明報、經濟日報、蘋果日報及星島日報撰寫專欄文章;連續於2002-2013年度獲得香港教練培訓委員會「優質教學獎」;每星期定期為香港電台主持體育及健康節目。
