Project S002 – Library AI Chatbot

HKUST Library Digital Scholarship DS CoLab Project S002

Project Background

ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a state-of-the-art language model based on the GPT architecture, trained on vast amounts of textual data to understand and generate human-like text responses. It excels in natural language processing (NLP) tasks, enabling sophisticated, context-aware conversations that surpass traditional rule-based chatbots. Its ability to handle complex queries, adapt to conversational context, and generate coherent, relevant answers makes it a promising tool for transforming library services.

Overall, the project leverages cutting-edge AI conversational technology to modernize library services, making them more accessible, efficient, and user-centric in the digital age.

Project Goal

The primary goal of the Library Chatbot Development Project is to design and implement an intelligent, AI-powered chatbot using OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology to enhance library services. This chatbot will answer general inquiries, including basic library information and FAQs, questions related to user privileges, room booking guidance, research support, and virtual reference assistance with multilingual support. By leveraging ChatGPT’s advanced natural language understanding and generation capabilities, the chatbot aims to deliver a seamless, human-like interaction experience that meets diverse user needs in the library domain as an AI service which operates 24/7.
