Dixon started his first siphon coffee bar, Xen Coffee, in 2008. Since then, Dixon has co-founded an education division, COFFEE Lab Asia; a roastery, Sensory Artisan; and a specialty coffee shop, sensory ZERO (one of the most successful independent coffee shops in Hong Kong that has eight branches to date).Dixon is a certified CQI Q Arabica InstructorⓇ, an Authorized SCA Trainer & Certifier, a World Coffee Events (WCE) Representative & Certified Judge in World Barista Championship (WBC), World Brewers Cup (WBrC), World Latte Art Championship (WLAC), World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship (WCIGS) & World Coffee Roasting Championship (WCRC), Dixon is also a Certified Judge in World Siphonist Championship 2013-2016 and Voluntary Advisor to the Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association (HKPCA).More about Dixon: https://alum.hkust.edu.hk/alumni-kaleidoscope/2378/dixon-ip

About this iTalkIn this talk, award-winning journalist and former CNN correspondent, Mike Chinoy will discuss the biography he has written about Kevin Boyle (1943-2010), one of the world’s great human rights lawyers. In a career as a lawyer and academic, starting in Northern Ireland in the 1960s, across decades and continents, Boyle worked on issues ranging from freedom of the press to the rights of minorities (ethnic, religious, and sexual) and more. Kevin Boyle was a charismatic, influential figure: a great lawyer, scholar, and mentor whose fascinating life story deserves to be better known. While he worked primarily in China and North Korea, he also reported on the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1970s and 80s. It was during this time that he met Kevin Boyle. Chinoy is currently a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the University of Southern California’s US-China Institute and is based in Hong Kong. His books include China Live: People, Power, and Television Revolution (1999), Meltdown: The Inside Story of the North Korean Nuclear Crisis (2008), and The Last POW (2014).

座談會簡介 / About the Talk 三位剛畢業的化學及生物工程學系同學在2020年春季的Product and Process Design 課程 project 中,經劉元帥教授指導和和科大校友創業家何寶琪女士協助下,成功研發和推出長效抗菌護手霜。這次講座會介紹化妝品的科學知識以及抗菌護手霜的研發。Three CBE students came up with the idea of creating a long-lasting antimicrobial hand cream in the Product and Process Design course in Spring 2020. With the tremendous support from Prof. Marshal Liu and alumna-entrepreneur Ms. Vanessa Ho Po-Ki, the idea came to fruition and the product was successfully commercialized.This talk will focus on the science and function of cosmetics and the development of antimicrobial hand creams. 登記報名: https://lbcube.ust.hk/ce/event/7790 講者簡介 / About the Speakers 劉元帥教授 (Professor Marshal Liu)Dr Marshal LIU is currently Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor of Engineering Education at Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering, and Associate Director of Center for Engineering Education Innovation, at HKUST.Being a teacher with passion, dedication and versatile teaching methods, Dr LIU has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Teaching Award in School of Engineering, and Common Core Teaching Excellence Award for the course Food Science and Technology. His research is focused on food processing, product design and development.Dr Liu is also committed to providing students with fulfilling and pleasant learning experience, to mentoring students for all-round growth and development. Dr Liu is interested in entrepreneurship and has worked closely with several alumni on the startups. One team won the President award in HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition for wastewater treatment in 2018. In 2020, he joined efforts with UG students and alumni to develop and launch the long-lasting antimicrobial hand cream, in response to the battle with infectious diseases.
