As the holiday season approaches, we hope to use a unique way to celebrate the incredible research achievements of HKUST in 2024 – turning our collective outputs into a festive Christmas tree!
This Christmas tree-shaped visualization captures the most prominent keywords from HKUST’s 2024 publications. It’s a cheerful reminder of what our researchers have accomplished together!
What’s in the Tree?
The tree was built using bibliometric records of HKUST publications in 2024. We extracted the “Index Keywords” of over 5,500 articles in the Scopus database. By analyzing the frequency of the words and phrases, we identified the most common terms and created a word cloud, shaped into a Christmas tree to symbolize the year’s academic growth.
The most prominent terms “neural network”, “machine learning” and “deep learning” reflect HKUST’s strong focus on AI and data-driven methodologies. Related keywords like “reinforcement learning“ and “language model” further highlight our advances in cutting-edge computational techniques. Beyond AI, terms such as “protein”, “cell line”, “liquid crystal”, “thin film” and “carbon dioxide” also showcase our diverse contributions across biomedical research, materials science and sustainability.
