DataSpace@HKUST can help you with data publishing. How?

As a researcher, sometimes you may need to share your data to meet publishers’ or funders’ requirement, but the process of preparing your data can be tedious and time-consuming. In this regard, DataSpace@HKUST can help.

The Library launched DataSpace@HKUST in 2017. It is a repository for HKUST faculty members and research postgraduate students to store and publish data. At the same time, it can also serve as a data sharing platform if researchers wish to open their data to the public.

How Can DataSpace@HKUST Help?

The service is supported by a special team, which consists of professional librarians with various expertise. Members of the DataSpace Team will assist you in depositing and publishing datasets; they will also create standardized metadata to describe your datasets and tidy up any formatting issues with you.

Once a dataset is published in DataSpace@HKUST, it will receive a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) that makes the dataset easily discoverable and persistently accessible. Meanwhile, a ready-made standard citation is created for users to cite your work, which can lead to more accurate citation count and help you get the proper credit.

Deposit data in DataSpace@HKUST

Log in to DataSpace@HKUST with your ITSC username and password, then choose “Create Dataverse” under “Service.” Fill in the online form and click “Submit.” After that, upload your dataset(s) to the dataverse and complete the project description (metadata) as detail as possible. Finally, click the “Submit for Review” button to finish the process, which will trigger a notification to the DataSpace Team at the same time.

The Team will follow up on the submission after receiving the notification and contact you for issues that need to be clarified, such as copyright of the data.

Published Dataverse and Datasets

The following example shows the details of a dataverse, which includes number of downloads, the ready-made citation, number of files (datasets), metadata, terms of use, and versions.

The Library welcome you to use DataSpace@HKUST to deposit, publish, and share your data. You can contact us via lbds@ust.hk if you have questions and comments.
