Grow Your Research Capabilities with Researcher’s Series

Welcome back! We hope you had a restful and rejuvenating break. As we begin a new term, we would like to bring your attention to the new Researchers’ Series program.

Featured Talk on Research Data Management

On March 10, Dr. Zhi Ning (ENVR, HKUST) will deliver a talk on “Sourcing and Managing Digitalized Environmental Big Data from Sensor” via Zoom. With fast development of microsensor technology, its applications in smart city, green building and environmental management have boosted the number of sensor nodes and dimension of data. This has created challenges on managing and analyzing big and complex data. In this talk, Dr. Ning will give an overview of the sensor technology, and the use of cloud platform to acquire open-source data, plant senor algorithm, and analyze sensor data.

New Workshop – Open Access: What, Where, How?

In addition to the regular workshops on copyright and academic integrity, the Library will offer a new session on open access in this spring term. Open Access (OA) has become a trend in academic publishing, but researchers are often unsure about different OA policies.  What is Green/Gold/Bronze OA?  What open access rights do you retain when signing the publisher agreement for a journal article? Are you permitted to self-archive in your institutional repository? To help you clarify some common but confusing OA terms and practices, this workshop will provide you with an overview of open access in academia.

All HKUST staff and students are welcome to join us. Details about the talk/workshops, and registration information are available on the Researchers’ Series webpage. You can also visit the Seminar Archive for past seminars and talks
