Since September 2025, our library entrance gates have featured Smart Door Panels, designed to support e-Identity access using the HKUST QR Code or HKUST Staff App.

But how widely are they being used? Let's look at the numbers.

A Growing Trend

In the first six months (September 2025–February 2026), we recorded a total of 142,177 entries via Smart Door Panels. Although the traditional card reader on the entrance gates remains the primary entry method, the adoption of e-Identity access is climbing. On average, 13% of library entries now occur via the Smart Door Panels.
