The artisan of library collection: Maggie 館蔵背後的巧匠: Maggie
Since 1992, Maggie has dedicated over 30 years to the HKUST Library, handling the end-processing of the library collection, from call number labels and barcodes to bookplates, library stamps, tattle-tape, and protective covers. She shares her expertise with colleagues and student helpers while eagerly learning from them in return. Beyond her work with books, Maggie is a passionate traveler who gladly volunteered to help capture memories by taking photos at various library events. Now in her retirement, we express our deep gratitude and wish her a wonderful journey ahead filled with travel and adventure. Thank you, Maggie.
當您穿梭在書架間，翻閱或借還書冊時，是否曾留意過書本上那些微小的細節？像是書脊上貼得整齊劃一的索書號，或是頁邊那一枚枚蓋得端正的科大館藏圖章。這些細節背後，都有著我們圖書館同事 Maggie 的巧手用心。
Maggie 自 1992 年 9 月起便加入科大圖書館編目部，專責書籍上架流通前的最後一道物理工序。從書脊的索書號、書底的識別條碼、封面內側的藏書票，到頁邊的館藏圖章、書內的防盜磁條，以及最外層的保護書膜，這套不可或缺的「六部曲」，都是由她悉心處理。這看似簡單的工序，背後卻藏著許多需要細心琢磨的技巧。例如，識別條碼要預留多少空間才不會遮擋到書籍內容？防盜磁條該如何巧秒地隱藏在書頁之間？館藏圖章又要如何精準地蓋在頁邊的中心位置？這一切，都考驗著她的眼力與經驗。這份經年累月練就的手藝，Maggie 從不藏私。她樂於與同事和學生助理交流，毫無保留地分享自己這套『六部曲』的心得與經驗。
熱愛周遊列國的 Maggie，喜歡用鏡頭記錄下旅途中的事與物。自然而然地，她便加入了圖書館的攝影隊。在圖書館舉辦的各類型作家訪談、分享講座和研討會中，總能看見她手持相機，專注記錄每個精彩瞬間。Maggie 回憶道:「每一次參與活動拍攝，看到那麼多師生和講者熱烈地交流，自己能夠在場見證，真的深感榮幸。」
如今，這位陪伴科大圖書館走過三十餘載的巧匠，終於可以放下工作，盡情探索這個世界。在此，我們衷心祝願 Maggie 退休後的生活依舊多姿多采，繼續到處遊山玩水、增廣見聞，享受每一趟旅程！
