More Than an Exhibition
Events & Programs

The new exhibition at the G/F Gallery offers a glimpse into the making of Northlandia in Michelle Fung’s 2084 project.

Rather than focusing solely on finished artworks, this process-based exhibition shows how she researched, travelled to the Arctic, developed her ideas, and worked with the curator and the wider team to bring the imaginary world to life.

Inside the Artist Tour

At our first artist-led tour last Sunday, Michelle explained how the exhibition came together.

She shared stories from her Arctic journey and described how curator Grace drew on their conversations, Michelle’s notes, and her social media posts to write the exhibition text on the walls. Michelle also told us how animator Isaac joined the project by chance—or perhaps fate—just one day before she left for the Arctic in February this year.

Among the many stories Michelle shared, what stood out was not only the creativity behind the work, but also the persistence that lay behind it. Her Arctic journey illustrated this well. While the weather often dictated what was possible, she approached each day with curiosity and determination, adapting to circumstances while continuing to pursue her goals.

Why Teamwork Matters

During the tour, Michelle described an exhibition as a team effort:

“If you want to go far, you need other people.”

This also applies to everyday life. Whether you are working on a group project or handling office tasks, support from others can help you move forward.

How Reading Inspires

Michelle also spoke about the importance of reading.

For her, it brings fresh ideas and supports creative thinking. Whether you prefer books or online articles, reading widely can help you stay informed in your field and continue learning.

Michelle explains how a Chinese map inspired the creation of The Map of 2084 (Northlandia).

Michelle's sharing reminded us that creativity is not only about inspiration. It is built through curiosity, persistence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Coming Up

Want to learn more about Michelle’s creative journey? Visit the exhibition at the G/F Gallery.

The conversation continues beyond the exhibition itself. In November, you are welcome to attend an artist talk, join curator Grace as she shares her perspective on the exhibition, and participate in a curators' dialogue. The program will continue in January 2027 with a focus on animation, featuring a tour led by the animator and a discussion with experts in the field.

We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.
